RQ-170 (Beast of Kandahar)
Mission

The RQ-170, developed by Lockheed Martin for the US Air Force, is a low observable (stealth) unmanned aircraft system (UAS) that provides reconnaissance and surveillance of enemy targets.

The RQ-170 is flown by Air Combat Command (ACC), 432nd Wing at Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, and the 30th Reconnaissance Squadron at Tonopah Test Range, Nevada.

The classified craft has been dubbed by aviation experts as the "Beast of Kandahar" after sightings at Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan. The Air Force has only recently acknowledged the existence of the craft after photos of the craft surfaced in a French blog.
